National programme encourages early language learning, because "language is the key to the world"

Since June 2016 the German Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ) promotes the programme "Sprach-Kitas: Weil Sprache der Schlüssel zur Welt ist" [Early-Years Language Learning: Because Language is the Key to the World] running from 2016 - 2020. The programme supports day-care centres attended by children with special needs relating to language development for a maximum period of 4 years. The aim of this national programme is to support participating kindergartens and crèches in developing children’s language skills, coping with diversity and strengthening cooperation with families.

A total of 51 FRÖBEL centres benefit from this promotion. They receive funding to employ an additional, specially qualified language-intervention professional for 19.5 hours a week. These new team members provide stimulus, contribute ideas and help establish projects promoting integrated language interventions, inclusion and cooperation with families. The early-years language learning centres also have access to the support of an additional education consultant for all issues relating to language and inclusion. The extra language-intervention professionals and the kindergartens in which they work are guided and trained by the Education & Quality Development Team.
